MSN is terribly old-fashioned these days - or so I was told by a trendy 17-year-old. Apparently those who are 'with it' (clearly not me) use Facebook chat these days. Well, I do stand corrected - though truth be told, I haven't used it myself for ages, though that's mainly because I prefer the even more old-fashioned tools like the telephone, face-to-face conversation, and that new-fangled email thingiemebub.
Anyway, speaking of fashion, this pearl of wisdom I might point out came from a young man wearing a pair of jeans that only came half way up his underpants. I mean, how can you possibly take anyone seriously who spends so much time grooming his hair yet walks around looking like he's lost his elastic from his bottom half?
It's a rum old world, make no mistake, but I should thank him for gifting me this pearl of an idea for The Three Muses' challenge this week - 'Old Fashioned'. Just check out that ancient screenshot of ye olde MSN we used to communicate with each other in the olden days... A little digital fun for you!

MSN? Lost me there
ReplyDeleteAn Oldie x
Oh SO true! what is this with the baggy pants thing? I remember I was at the hairdressers one morning and the young lad, skinny as a rake, with same pants clinging onto what there was of his hips for dear life slowly sliding down as he tried to go up a spiral staircase carrying a huge pile of towels. Poor Lad was so embarrassed but then perhaps he should have heeded his mothers advice and worn more sensible jeans!!!
ReplyDeleteLOL at the image. And it's true. I don't remember the last time I talked on MSN. My friends are on facebook now
ReplyDeleteMSN is old fashioned already? i've haven't even started using it yet ... let's see ... it's still ... yes, i see it, no. 9 on my "need to start using high-tech things" list! :P
ReplyDeleteyou know what, this post just tickles me! first, you are such an artistic genius! i would never have thot of using a screenshot and making it into art ... and yours is awesome!! love how old-fashioned it looks!!
second, yesterday i was at a rehearsal and i edited a song so i burned it on a cd. brought it there and they stared at me ... i said, "what?" "oh cd", they said ... then it occurred to me that ppl use pendrives to store songs now ... CRAP!!
Funny piece!
ReplyDeleteI've laughed out loud at your art and the comments! xx
ReplyDeleteHaHa, so true ~ I love your cobwebby screenshot art! I haven't even graduated to MSN yet, so I'm hopeless.
ReplyDeleteLOVE your description of the kid with his pants slipping off! It's a small world, I guess kids dress the same there as here. I'm waiting for the fad to pass, hope I don't have to wait too much longer!
This is so funny--20 years ago--all of this would have sounded like a fantasy!
ReplyDeleteI love your piece! I can't be doing with writing on people's walls on facebook. I like email or the telephone. Texting is too fiddly for anything other than yes or no! I sound like one of tv's 'grumpy old women' ... but I remember when BT's slogan was 'it's good to talk!' I'm really not THAT old!!!
ReplyDeleteKaren
Wonderful piece, Lisa, and even more fun were your comments. I went to theatre last week, and before the show I looked to the left where my daughter was busy texting, to her left a young man was texting, and to my right a young girl was texting. I sat mute, and feeling VERY old!!!
ReplyDeleteExcellent :-)
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree about those trousers!

oh you always have a way with words and Art Lisa!!! love it and look forward to 2011 here!!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!!!!
You are a gifted writer. With that said, I installed MSN a year ago and do not participate on Facebook. I guess I belong in a museum.
ReplyDeleteI love your piece and your words. Please write more. Hugs.
Great post Lisa...I grew up when Dick Tracy's wrist radio was the envy and marvel of every child...who ever thought there would be cell phones let alone facebook. Your picture is very vintage looking for a couple of high tech babes...great job!
ReplyDeleteHow true!! Fabulous, Lisa!
ReplyDeleteAfter reading your post and here most of the comments...I'm still laughing Lisa !!
ReplyDeleteLet me say...I USE msn....occasionally LOL
Fantastic take on this theme.
ReplyDeleteFB is a disease, in my opinion. I have a FB account, but I'm not on it all day, or even every day like so many people. IMO, FB has made people VERY lazy. People who used to email me several times a month now can't be bothered. And if the rare occasion that they do send a message, they send it via FB! So annoying. I'm not one to chat on MSN either...but I think it's far nicer than FB. At least then you're having a direct, one-on-one conversation with someone. Anyhoots, love your "old fashioned" creation. And I loved what you said about the elastic missing from his bottom half. It's so funny and so true!
ReplyDeletelove the idea and what you made with it! it looks fantastic!
ReplyDeletei´m just too old fashioned for face book... nobody could tell me so far what it should be good for...
Well if msn is old news then I'm glad. It's something I don't have to get the hang of now! Why do they like to have their underwear on show? I have to stop myself all the time from trying to pull my son's jeans up, although there was one occasion when I just couldn't help myself.....!
ReplyDeleteSuch a fun piece, and I do so much agree about those jeans!
ReplyDeleteTina...it had nothing to do with elastic or lack of LOL! Fortunately he had elastic in his underwear tho or it would have been REALLY embarrassing! I remember too, my son would spend ages positioning his jeans half way down his bum so that the Calvin Klein embossed elastic of his boxers was visible. Apparently this was a fashion statement! Oh and there was that dreadful thing for the girls where they wore hipster jeans and hoisted their thong elastic way up over their hips just to scream out "Look at me, I'm wearing a tiny thong"! Hey I've just joined the Grumpy Old Women show too LOL!!
