Following my Magical Mythical Makings course I am once more wrapped up in a mermaid world and just can't seem to get enough of these mystical creatures.
I did these sketches over a week ago now in preparation for a potential painting, but this is as far as I got before the virus got me! I'm leaning more towards the first one as a composition. I want the richest of colours swirling around her though on a big canvas. Deep acrylics, fibres, glitter and shell shards. I'm starting to grow in confidence with using bigger materials to paint on (if only they weren't so expensive!). I even had a crazy idea of painting a wall in my bathroom (with a big pot of white emulsion ready... just in case). I wonder if that's how Michaelangelo started. Bet he got into trouble with his Mama!
I am getting more and more excited about the art retreat and the workshops with Flora Bowley. Her use of colour is phenomenal - so rich you want to dive in and hug it!
For those of you who are regular followers, I must apologise for all the whining about being ill this week - you may have gathered that I am not a good, or even patient, patient. Thank you for all the get well wishes - though I might need a few more cause they haven't worked yet.... Oops, there I go again. Whinge whinge... Just be grateful it's not catching down the wire(less)!
I'm off now to visit the other Sunday Sketchers over at Blue Chair Diary

Beautiful mermaids--they deserve to be on canvas! And yes, feel better!! How wonderful that you're taking a Flora Bowley workshop--I would love to meet her.
ReplyDeleteI love your mermaids!! can't wait to see them on canvas! hope u feel better soon :))
ReplyDeleteLove the mermaids.....go for the wall art. I've done several over the years..it's lots of fun. And you can always paint over it. The first one I did was when I first got married and couldn't afford a large painting over the sofa so I did it myself! :) Go for it.
ReplyDeleteLol about Michaelangeloe getting in trouble with his mama. I love your mermaids.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Joann, go for the wall art is is great fun. I painted a wall in my granddaughter's bedroom and her cousin wanted one so I did that also. I like the first mermaid the best but they are both lovely.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful mermaids. I give you a lot of credit, I tried acrylics and realized just how difficult a medium it is to work with.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the kind words and the link. That's exactly what I was looking for!
oh your mermaids are lovely, and you have connected them with the snail swirl! Sorry to hear you have been ill, totally no fun.
ReplyDeleteLove the mermaids and the swirl behind them just sets them off. Lovely. I know they will be great on canvas! Hope you are feeling good today.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful mermaids... Love the idea of doing the wall. For years, on and off, I wake up with images a 'mureal' I will someday do. Seems to have some back ground colors, but the images are just black drawings over the background.

ReplyDeleteFirst of all darn that cold anyway!!! Tell it to get bent!
ReplyDeleteLove your mermaids and I'm jealous of your ability to use acrylics so well - I am so intimidated by paint!
I like them both, but the movement in the second one is really cool! Great job on both of them!
Now you rest and force fluids and take super good care of yourself!
Healing smiles sent your way...
Love your mermaids! You are going to love Flora Bowley. She is just so down to earth. I had the pleasure of taking a class with her in Philadelphis. She was awesome. Her techniques are simular to Jesse Reno ( I took a class with him too, Awesome!!) Love them both.
ReplyDeleteAww Geez Lisa now you started something...I am seeing mermaids and fishes and seahorses on my bathroom wall....Lovely Man may get a little ticky tho. He loves my art but not sure he'd go for it directly on the wall! But hey wouldn't that look awesome? Hope you feel much better too my friend.
ReplyDeletecyber hugs and smooches *mwah*
I SAY DO THE WALL!!!! My step-mom brought me my first set of watercolors - she had paintings all over her walls - mostly cartoon type characters - many years later she took some art courses ... now she is currently using colored pencils and doing an oriental mural in her bathroom - absolutely breathtaking - so go for it!!! I soooooooo love the mermaid swirling with the green hair!
ReplyDeletecheers, dana

ReplyDeleteLove all the swirls and natural movement in your mermaids...so pretty.
ReplyDeleteI do hope you're recovering and back on your feet soon. (hugs) I love your mermaids, especially the first one. They intrigue me and I love to see how different people interpret them in their own artwork. One of these days....I'll give it a shot. =)
