Raw emotion

The London 2012 Olympics are a crazy roller-coaster ride of emotion. What a time to be British. Yesterday we won SIX gold medals and one silver. We're sitting 3rd in the league table but top if you calculate medals:population. We're on fire!

It's been a hell of a year so far with the Jubilee helping to unite the nation to. Our Monarch has even taken to parachuting out of helicopters. I'm so proud.

Not much time for sketching as I was rather glued to the TV, but did manage to capture the emotion of Kat Copeland as she stood in disbelief at the top of the podium after winning the Women's Lightweight Double Sculls alongside partner Sophie Hosking.

I have the rest of the day planned out - there's GB medal hopes in the sailing, tennis, gymnastics, cycling, triple jump, and 400m (maybe more too - but those are just the ones I want to watch!)... plus of course a certain Mr Bolt attempts to retain his crown.

Sharing for Sunday Sketches.

  1. I loved the Queen's parachute jump...and lucky lady to have Bond escorting her. There is real British French rivalry going on in my household...it just adds to the fun and excitement. Like you, I've been glued to my comfy sofa cheering on Team GB and really enjoying all the sports....expect of course when the French beat the Brits.... :)

  3. I'm glued as well, very proud to be British right now. And I do love our Queen no matter what but she made me beam with pride at her humorous entrance into the Olympics, now not every 80yr old would do that! lol

  4. You really caught her emotion, even with just the eyes. Our eyes always tell on us. I'm not British, don't watch the olympics, and have no idea what Double Sculls is (sounds like a card game for pirates!), but congrats to your country, anyway. Sounds like they are doing very well.

  7. You really really captured her look and feelings in those eyes! Great job! and how fun to be thrilled having the Olympics in your own backyard! I too enjoyed the parachute jump as I did not realize the Queen had such a sense of humor. Thought that intro extravaganza was quite amazing over all. I have not been following much, but did see one of our guys who has 18 medals (USA-swimmer!) Michael Phelps I think his name is bowing out/retiring last night on the telly! Wow for our team! LOL

  12. What Tammy said! You really captured her emotions. There's no question that eyes are the window to the soul. Glad you've been enjoying the Olympics! I haven't seen that much, but did enjoy the competitions (swimming and gymnasts) that I did see.

  13. Great picture you certainly got the emotion. I have mixed feelings when watching Olympics as I lived in Britain for 20 yrs, so whenever a Kiwi is not taking part I cheer for the Brits. NZ is going crazy over its 2 Golds in the Rowing.
