A couple of works in progress to share with Sunday Sketches.
Now, where would you go with these? I'm thinking butterflies with the first - I stuck a sample cut out in the scanner, but I think I'll draw, rather than actually collage - and that one is almost scarily big!
Naturally, it's not until she goes in the scanner that I spot one eye bigger than the other (I'm sure it's the machine that does it...).
Mind you, the Scanner did make up for changing facial features on this second piece. She went in, looking a little green around the gills, as if perhaps she was about to audition for a 'walk-on' part in The Walking Dead.
She came out flushed with a rich shade of orange - although she still looks terrifying. I think she'll get the part without too much effort. Funnily enough she is actually risen from the dead so to speak, as she's sitting on top of another portrait that freaked me out even more than this. I had to cover her in a shroud of tissue paper collage. She may have got her own back by possessing this new interloper to her page.
So, what would you do with these? Ideas please!!

I blame everything on the scanner and my hubby. :) It works for me. Love your portraits. I have no idea what I'd do with them. I love the layers.
ReplyDeleteholy cow! I love the idea of overlaying one portrait on top of another and the first one possessing the face that went on top of hers . . . I mean, it makes sense. The way you make your portraits with collage paper (in combo with your drawing and painting) already adds depth and layers, breathing life into these women; the story about the second just gives her that much more of a story. She's gorgeous . . . sorry about her being possessed. ;P
ReplyDeleteAs for the first one with one eye being bigger than the other--I don't see the difference, but I'll trust that you see the difference. You know, it might not be that the scanner changed the size, but that you are looking at it from a different perspective allowing you to see details you didn't observe whilst creating her. That happens to me--I am happy with a drawing, I photograph it, and then I pull it up on my computer and I catch mistakes then.
I don't have any advice but I lIked your title and the way you wrote about your paintings. I just finished 'Duma Key' by Stephen King and that is why the title of your post struck a chord. I won't give it away in case you like Stephen King and haven't read it! Also one of my eyes is slightly bigger than the other one so no problems there! I look forward to seeing what you do next!
ReplyDeleteBoth portraits are great, but my favorite one is the one with the warm colors. She's very striking. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteVery creative and wonderful illustrations and creative layering ~ Wow!
ReplyDeleteA Creative Harbor) aka ArtMuseDog and Carol ^_^
I like both pictures. Wonderful.
ReplyDeleteYour faces are beautiful and striking, love the way you use color so creatively!
ReplyDeleteI always notice wonky eyes on my faces after I have posted them... :)
In real life we all have one side of face slightly different to the other. How about scan both take 1/2 one and 1/2 of other and fuse together side by side. Or make a collage - sheet music say. Print your faces onto glossy photo paper and image transfer onto the sheet music. This will make them slightly see through. Love them too. Joan
ReplyDeletei like the layers, and don't see anything wrong with the eyes. happy sunday!
ReplyDeleteI like how it turned out! The many layers are fascinating.
ReplyDeleteI can just admire them. I like layers and love things that happen by chance. I'm enchanted by the eyes of the first, and the eyes of the second make me smile. They are both awesome ;-)
ReplyDeleteWonderful work!
ReplyDeleteGreetings from Belgium, Saskia :)
I love both of them just as they are. I love how you layered with the tissue to get that look. Thanks for stopping over to see me on my blog! I hope you have a great day!
ReplyDeleteJane
maybe they are sisters, each with their own personality, with the similarities harder to find. I like both of these. You say they are wip's. I look forward to seeing what you decide.
ReplyDeleteNever thought of layering things like that! Pretty smart idea!! :) Gosh they are so awesome hard to know how to give advice....
ReplyDeleteI just love your writing and sketches. The deep orange in the second one is amazing. Love your stuff! :)
