Beach treasure
Who can resist combing the sandy shore for treasure? Not me! Though I've never quite been lucky enough to find a shell of this size to stick in my bucket.
This Summer I brought home from Greece a teeny tiny bag full of teeny tiny shells that I thought I would include in my art at some point. When the IA challenge this week was 'beach treasure' you would think that this presented the ideal opportunity... Alas, I only remembered the teeny tiny bag as I was writing the accompaniment to this shell sketch that I'd done instead! I do worry about my memory sometimes.
Far too much time lately is spent searching for the 'thing I had in my hand just a moment ago'. Do you think perhaps there's some sort of mischief sprite in the house that delights in hiding things the moment your back is turned? We certainly have a knot fairy in residence. My son just showed me what she'd been up to last night. That little scamp visits us every evening and puts knots in computer cables, necklace chains, phone chargers and anything else stringy she can get her little hands on. We've yet to catch her in the act... but beware little madam we are on your case... it's only a matter of time!
Now, what was I doing? Oh yes, writing a post about beachcombing!
Never mind. This will do.
For Sunday Sketches too.

I love the shell, it is a lovely piece of work. You have captured the delicacy of each section and the sense of the pearly shine.
ReplyDeleteLol, love the story about your knot fairy! I have a fairy who loves to steal socks in my house! Love the shell picture, very delicate. I like the sound of your little shell stash from Greece, will look forward to seeing what you do with them! :)
ReplyDeleteI just love the 'feel' of your blog and your sketch and your blogging - there is such a wonderful delicacy about it all!
ReplyDeleteI love spirals so this really appeals to me! It's a great drawing Lisa, the tonal hatching on the shell gives it a really 3d feeling. The background is lovely and washy to compliment it too. Lovely!
ReplyDeleteThe knot fairy! So that's who's been mesing around in my jewellery box - just wait til I catch her...! We also ahve a fairy here who changes the toilet roll - oh no wait, my son and OH just THINK we do ;)
I used to collect shells too but missplaced them everytime we got home from vacation. :) Great drawing! I have a mischief sprite too. He's called my husband. :) He keeps misplacing things than makes me look for them cause he can't find them. Not to say I find whatever he's looking for in a second. :) I think he has a selective sight.
ReplyDeleteHi Lisa, love the shell sketch..and yes I love combing the beach for treasure... haven't managed to get to the beach once this summer...uggg... oh and the memory thing...I have that too... even met a little fairy this week with same problem... :)
ReplyDeleteLovely sketch! I must have several of those fairies here, who hide my glasses, put the tomatoes in the closet and the soap in the freezer....What would I do all day if I didn't have to search for things? Have a great Sunday, Valerie
ReplyDeletegreat sketch...I have many of those tiny bags of shells that I am someday going to do something fantastically artsy with.... oh, as far as the sprite...he must be on busy (butt) guy, cuz I run myself crazy trying to find things I just had...
ReplyDeletecheers, dana
mmmmmm beachcombing...love it although it always leaves me with backache!
ReplyDeleteI love the quiet colours in this piece, but I must say I am thoroughly enchanted by your background image to the left. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteStay inspired!
Very pretty...love the colors and the feel that they evoke of the beach and ocean. Oh, and you little fairy....too fun! We have a few of those mischief makers in our house too! Magic! POP ART MINIS
ReplyDeleteShell sketch is awesome ~ Love it! ~ Think I have the same little sprite in my home ~ My brain is on overload sometimes! ~ LOL ~ thanks for sharing, namaste, CArol (Share the Creative Journey) (^_^)
ReplyDeleteI lov your pen and ink work on the shell- and the color splashes!!!
ReplyDeleteyikes, a knot fairy? watch out!
i have the same problem with putting things down and losing them....too much on our busy artistic minds! hee!!!! enjoy your sunday!
I think we have one of those sprites in our house too, one that always puts the toilet seat up when I'm not looking and messes up the bathroom...... ;0)
ReplyDeleteLovely line work on this shell it is quite different to your other work, very delicate indeed. I was just looking back through your last few posts, how did I manage to get so behind so quick? Love the topsey turvey painting and those beautiful ladies before that! YOur work is so bold and striking, love it!! :0)
Beautiful shell. :D
ReplyDeleteThe detail of your shell is fabulous! and i like the soft background reminiscent of the sea and light at the beach! AND Greece! I so love Greece having lived there a few yrs - I am SO jealous! Maybe your brought a wonderful wee fairy home from that land of gorgeous blues and olives silver leaved, rust red dirt, oregano on the warm air and a with a salt sky that goes forever! She must have rode in your bag of wee shells!
ReplyDeleteI can totally relate to your... err, umm... what was I writing?!? Ha! (It's a good thing my head is fastened on or I'd lose that too!)
ReplyDeleteI love the look of your beautifully drawn shell set against the washy, beachy background :)
xo

What a beautiful shell, it almost looks like a fabulous hair ornament.
ReplyDeleteI hate when things go missing. After a point, I just stop looking and hope it will show up sometime.
hehe..lovely shell..this is why i visit sunday sketches evryweek, so delighted i feel to look at such nice work! :)
ReplyDeleteHAH!! i seriously think that the same clan of sprites come to visit my place too. i wonder if they take the normal 12 hour flight, go thru a portkey or just apparate themselves here!! i also think that these mischievous fae come in many forms ... one of them being the chemicals that mess with your brains after childbirth! SIGH!!! whatever it is ... i'm just glad that they didn't mess with yours and my ability to make art!! i think i'll happily sacrifice some (a little) memory loss if they can make me make better art!! of course searching for hours on end for car keys that have been left in the fridge's egg tray can sometimes be annoying as well ... :D
ReplyDeleteLove the shell!!!! I have bags of treasures I keep saying I'll use somehow some way and always forget too.
ReplyDeleteFor the second time this week, I am finding real humor in an IA post. Granted, that was after I pulled my jaw off the floor. Now that my mouth is properly closed, I have to admit this is one amazing sketch/drawing of a sea shell. I am totally impressed with the detail. Good old Leonardo would have been proud.
ReplyDeleteAs for your memory loss? What can I say. I think this happens to a lot of us. And I know that thing I was going to type was on the tip of my tongue a minute before I went off to search for what had been in my hand.
Ohhhh, beach treasures. I can't remember the last time sand squooshed between my toes!! :) Love your sketch of the shell and the beautiful blues behind it. Hugs
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful summery piece. Thos knot fairies can be naughty, they love messing up the cords to my blinds.
ReplyDeleteHow pretty. So much color. I like it.
ReplyDeleteI've forgotten more than I remember, what was the topic? Oh, yes your Gorgeous Shell, love the colors worked into the page, too. I have a few teeny tiny winkle shells from Ireland, and didn't realize just how tiny some sea shelled life actually is until I got these in the mail.
ReplyDeleteThis is lovely sketched on the painted background like that!
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful sketch and love the post.. I wonder if your knot fairy has a sister that likes to hide things.. I feel like if I leave anything out she hides them and it takes me forever to find. Anyway.. beach theme was excellent.. and I do love your background beautiful.. Take Care.
ReplyDeleteGreat sketch - detailed but not rigid. And the splotchy, smooshy background is just perfect to indicate a casual beachy presence. Beautiful work.
ReplyDeleteThat mischief spirit definitely resides in our house as well. I love your sketch of the shell, especially the colors you added to it. Very beautiful.
ReplyDeleteGreat sketch, Lisa! Looks fantastic with that background!
ReplyDeleteKnotty little fairy ;P
Love-Love your gorgeous shell..the color energies surrounding it too are fab! This is a beauty Lisa...really stunning and makes me feel free...beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLovely drawing.
ReplyDeleteLoving your shell sketch, I love to collect them whenever possible. As for that knot fairy I am certain it comes to my house too. My chains are constantly in a knot along with most of my jewellery!! Little scamp!!!
ReplyDeleteCute post! Yes, I have a knot and a chain and a sock fairy around here too. Shell is so nice. Hope you had a wonderful time in Greece.
