Klimt and Gritty Jane.
Something a little different. Weeks ago Jane des Rosier (aka Gritty) posted a challenge to get a bit of Klimt into our work. I'm taking her portraits and papers class (slowly!) so incorporated a bit of her teaching into my piece. There are some incredible works of art that she has posted on her Facebook page - I urge you to go on over and be amazed.
As you can no doubt see, this was painted over a patchwork of papers, many of which allowed their texture and pattern to show through. There are even the words A BEAUTIFUL PRINCESS at the bottom of the painting which I rather loved.
I can't decide if this is finished yet. It has been a week of unfinished projects which has left me ill-tempered. I've been going to bed early nursing a sore throat and accompanying aches and flitting from one work project to the next. I've calculated my VAT, but not paid it yet. I've bought half an outfit. I've not finished the book on storytelling in presentations I should have completed a week ago... I've half watched a webinar on writing a book and only managed to listen to one of Goddess Leonie's Summit lectures.
I shall post this to show my friends at Paint Party Friday and let them decide if it's finished or not! And in the meantime get on with finishing some stuff!
I love Jane's work - she is one of my favorite artists - would love to do her art course. Stunning picture - love the subtle lilacs and purples. Hope you feel better soon - both in body and mind (I hate those irritating moods that seem to pounce on one when things don't seem to be going quite the right way).
ReplyDeleteIt looks wonderful to me and she looks very finished. Love how you did the background. I once tried something similar with pieces of canvas stitched together with heavy raw cord, but alas unlike yours mine did not work. You have my mind ticking thinking that maybe I could do something similar but with thread :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a frustrating week you've had Lisa. I hope you can get the other half of your projects completed....
ReplyDeleteI love your new painting. She is voluptuous and sensual - a touch of red dare I say? I always love a touch of red - but then that's me.
Happy PPF.

Lisa, she is beautiful...sorry to hear you have been unwell too - please be gentle with yourself x
ReplyDeleteI think it's finished as I can't see anything that could make it better, truthfully love it as it is :) and those lips are delicious!
ReplyDeleteI have been in the half done, no traction mode this week too!! I have even found it rough to write my blog posts. They have taken me twice as long to finish. I am not sick though, knock on wood. What is it?? What's in the air??
ReplyDeleteYour painting is fab. Only YOU can determine if she is done...or maybe just toss a coin.;);)
Lovely painting ~ I think she could be finished ~ up to you ~ As for unfinished tasks ~ i tend to view them as 'gifts' to go back and work on ~ unless you are fighting a 'deadline' externally ~ I would relax and enjoy and take it a 'day at a time' ~ Life is an unfinished project ~ just my thoughts ~thanks, namaste, Carol (Share the Creative Journey) Happy PPF
ReplyDeleteperfect ... it is done ! the color is perfect for this art also great work! get feeling better and try some tea with honey !

There is some stunning art coming out of Jane's class. She must be a really inspiring teacher.
ReplyDeleteSomething tells me you will be pulled back to this piece again when you are feeling more yourself.
she is crazy-beautiful. that background technique is so cool. She looks done to me because I can't imagine what else you could do to her. she's lovely.
ReplyDeleteShe looks very done. She is very sensual, wow. I wished I looked like that, tee hee all of her. :)) Nice job.
ReplyDeleteyour piece is great, reminiscent of Klimt, but not a copy... bravo..
ReplyDeleteLove the use of the patchwork pieces. What a great idea!
ReplyDeleteI love what you've done here. The patchwork as wonderful texture and I really like the moody colors! Happy PPF!
ReplyDeleteYes, the patchwork effect is very nice, and the colors seem perfect to me ~ but, if you feel she's unfinished, I wouldn't push it... just let inspiration come to you :) Happy PPF!
ReplyDeleteThis is fabulous! I adore the colors you used and texture is amazing.
ReplyDeleteI participated in that challenge too...love Jane's work too along with so many others that were involved in that.
ReplyDeleteHope you get to feeling better and you get your things done.

A very cool painting of a very contorted position!
ReplyDeleteHope you feel better - bad week for bugs it seems.
I think we all have weeks like this but I would say the painting is finished, but I always do the stick it on the wall and I if I don't fiddle with it for a week then it is finished! Hope next week is filled with getting things finished.... and no sewing my fellow sewing hater!!! thanks for the comment, and maybe we can be our own little club xx
ReplyDeleteLisa, I love this piece, you did a great job. The thing about Leonie's webinar is that you can save it all for later. I have only watched a few things, saved most of them for later,
ReplyDeleteSuper beautiful Lisa...and very powerful too..i love the darklit lavender colors..magnificent! this painting feels like it is in motion..wonderful!

Oh yes, she looks finished and oh so very very FINE!!! Gorgeous painting and I love how you painted her over the patchwork papers, AWESOME!
ReplyDeleteVery lovely and I too can see Klimt overtones...love the color palette as well.
ReplyDeleteshe looks finished, nice colours you've used.
ReplyDeleteShe looks beautiful (very!) and also finished - but in the end it is you who has to decide whether she is finished or not.
ReplyDeleteWow Lisa, she is beautiful. I love the colors and the texture is amazing. I am glad to be back and happy you stopped by and then bought the book. I love her style and I love using pencils as they are so easy to take with me. I am slow so only just now starting the third exercise, maybe you can catch up and we can progress together.
ReplyDeleteIt's as good as finished to me Lisa. I really love the technique.. and the jigsaw like patchwork.. lovely colors too! Now you have to make sure to finish one thing first before moving on the next.:)
ReplyDeleteGreat painting, love the patchwork look! Valerie
ReplyDeleteHang in there. I hope this week proves to be better for you. And great piece. The paper underneath does provide such a unique texture. :) Hugs
ReplyDeleteOh I would definitely say she is finished... and beautifully at that! I love the complementary color scheme :)
ReplyDeleteI hope you feel much better soon (and take some time to rest)!
xo

Oh I really love her. I love Jane as well, and am doing her portraits and paper class, though I haven't gotten very far through this.
ReplyDeleteI am feeling a bit half done at the moment too, but I tell myself it is a sign of a full life :) And I find some things come to completion faster when they take a while to brew.
I think she's finished, but I always think other's art is finished then they add one more thing and it's the perfect thing, so do NOT listen to me!
ReplyDeleteLOve her colors and tone though!
ReplyDeleteI saw Jane's challenge on FB and I think you have done a wonderful piece. I love the shades of purple and the textured background!
ReplyDeleteWonderful! BIG klimt fan. Got to check out Janes page!
ReplyDeleteI think she's amazing! Love the colors and the patchwork of papers! Beautiful for sure! Pop Art Minis
ReplyDeleteThat texture you have created is very interesting! Captivating work this week. Happy PPF!
ReplyDeleteYour painting is beautiful! I love the colors. I also love Gritty Jane's work. She is great! I was going to take the class but I just can't swing the funds until next year. I am on a class budget. I have to behave myself. It's hard!!
