Shades

I don't like waste. I hoard tiny scraps of paper that might fit nicely in a collage one day. I roll up ribbons and pieces of string. I keep autumn dried leaves until they fall apart. I pot up leftovers to create something new another day. I feel totally guilty wasting paint - so when I create something that's thick and gloopy and really not going anywhere, it does seem a sensible decision to rub some paper over the top of it and then see where the Muse takes it.

The Muse took it here. She saw herself in amongst the smudges and bade me to draw her. She's very haughty is my Muse. Just look at how she stares down her nose at us.

I love to paint like this - to just take a splodge of colour and texture and then bring life out of it; a life that tells its own story through the very textures of its creation. It's a forgiving technique. Is this what is called abstract realism?

Posting for Sunday Sketches.

I don't like wasting either. :) I keep the scraps but never do anything with them. :) The paint I just pick up with the brush and put it back into the container. But your way is much more effiecent. :) You get another painting out of it. She looks wonderful!

I keep all bits of everything too. And I know exactly what you mean about that love of pulling a painting from a splodge of colour and texture ~ such a good way to paint intuitively.

What a great piece! I can't bear to waste paint, so I always create something abstract with whatever is leftover. Some of my best work comes that way!!!

Well, if this is what you created from what would otherwise have been wasted paint, then wow!! I love this - it seems a little surreal to me.

You're right, you can do wonderful things from a recycled materials and every artist should do that. Your previous article made me laugh because I also have tons of books and I enjoy reading and rereading them under my duvet !!!
