This family braved the drizzle to go to a local 'picnic in the park'. Some enterprising souls brought their own tents. We just dodged from the Antiques to the tea tent and face painting then slipped and slid through the quagmire that was once parkland. We don't care. It's our Queen's Jubilee and we're jolly well going to enjoy it.
You've got to admire the woman. 60 years on the throne and still smiling, still poised and elegant, still very much a figurehead and a bastion of all that's British, even if no-one can quite fathom what she carries in her handbag (maybe a couple of quid for an ice cream if the weather's nice).
She only has to say the word and the Royal peacocks change their plumage just for her. Red, white & blue is so this season.
I've no idea what possessed me to draw a peacock to celebrate the occasion, but let's just go with it. A Jubilee-inspired piece for Sunday Sketches.
Its obvious that you are as proud as a peacock that we have our great Queen and all she stands for. Terrific painting. Annette x

Great way to celebrate with your country. Nice colors!
ReplyDeletelove this post. . . love how elegant the royals always are!!!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the peacock strutting it's fine feathers. Happy Diamond Jubilee! I love that you all weathered the day and made a good time of it. The Queen is such an elegant lady. I admire her stamina and the respect she has from her countries men and women, as well as all around the world. You UK girls sure know how to throw some parties! I watched a bit on the news today. Fun!
ReplyDeleteXO,
Tammy
it sounds like a decent show complete with good old British weather.
ReplyDeleteHail to the Queen ~ my ancestors were Brits ~ so gotta love it ~ ^_^ ~ glad you had a good time celebrating and your peacock is awesome ~ love the colors ~ It is fitting for a 'Queen' ~ thanks, ^_^
ReplyDeleteI watched the Jubilee here in Toronto on television last night. It was fantastic. I wish I was one of those painters on the bridge!! Gorgeous peacock.

Striking color and elegant bird! Happy sketching every day.
ReplyDeleteWow!!! Love peacocks! this one ia gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteYou know, when I watch the Queen on TV I always think of my mom. They look very similar, although when she was young, my mother was a real beauty (I, unfortunately, look like my dad.... ehehehehe). :))
I watched some of the Jubilee on our BBC channel. I was amazed how she stood the whole time. It was fun watching all fun. I love peacocks so this is lovely. Years ago one of our major Television stations had the Peacock as their mascot showing the station was in full color. Guess I just aged myself. :)
ReplyDeleteperfect tribute to QE 2... jubilee fever has even reached down here ... I think our weather went out in sympathy over the weekend!!!!
ReplyDeleteYes, you Brits do know how to put on a show for sure. I always wanted to see the men who parade in their pearl button vests. As a matter of fact, my car would look good at the Jubilee too. Ahhhh..life at the Palace!
ReplyDeleteOh my that flotilla was insane wasn't it!? I especially loved the choir singers drenched in rain but belting out their voices nonetheless. This peacock is gorgeous. They're amazing birds I must say. Rarely do you see such colours in nature.
ReplyDeleteI think that your beautiful peacock is a very apt celebration of the queen's successes.
ReplyDeleteIt was an amazing weekend of festivities though I fear the poor Duke may have got rather overly cold.
:))

It's a lovely drawing actually and very patriotic colours indeed. :)
ReplyDeleteHurrah to all you've said on the Jubilee celebrations & Queen :-) Its been a great time of late with all the Olympic, torch and Jubilee celebrations. At 8 and 10 my kids are making wonderful memories this year through these experiences.
ReplyDeleteLoving your patriotic peacock! It would make a great picture for any jubilee memorabilia too.
Kat :-) Xx
