Reacquainting with my ex....ercise....

I know I keep going on about this like a stuck record, but I am feeling my age. I am not happy with being in my 40s. I miss my 30s. I'm struggling with lots of things, trying to maintain a hold of my sense of direction. What annoys me intensely though is I know of one thing that will help. It's called E X E R C I S E. I've put on weight, I'm starting to ache in my joints, I feel lumpy and frumpy and lacking in energy. I need a hit of those endorphins that rush through you when your heart rate's up and the lactic acid pumps through the muscles. So, why don't I do it? Well, the old lame excuses. I don't have the energy, the time, I have too much else to do...

Today, Jamie Ridler's wishcasting prompt asks us what we wish to make a fresh start at.... Well, you know Jamie maybe I should spend my lunchbreak today exercising. What do you say? Shall I stick on one of my DVDs and leap about a bit in front of the television? I very rarely even take a lunchbreak these days, spending far too much time here in front of the pc. I haven't even had my recurring dream about running (and often winning!) a marathon for ages... and I miss it...

OK, that's it. Decided. Fresh start beginning today. Exercise at least three times a week. I have my DVDs, my mini-stepper and my bike. Now my boy has learnt to ride his without stabilisers we can go off together at weekends and explore the local bike trails too. Lots of fun to be had.

I'm off to weigh myself and measure my waistline so I can set a target. Watch this space...
Postscript: Ha! Just read Connie's post on the same subject - she's getting back into yoga. We are on a similar wavelength. Watch out for all us fit women running around in a few weeks. See what you started Jamie!

  1. I'm on a diet too. :) But my luck is that everytime I decide to loose weight someone brings me cake. And I cannot resist cake! :)
    wish you luck!

  3. As Lisa wishes for herself, I wish for her as well. I think it would be great to start an on-line group where we support each other in our endeavors to get fit.

  6. good for you! I could have written this post myself, it's hard to get motivated to exercise when there are many other things to do, but it's not easy without energy.
I remember a quote I read once, that says something like this 'make way for exercise, or make way for illness'.
3 times a week is not so bad, I know you can do it!

  7. Moving my body is a big challenge for me too. Specially since I tend to overdo it when I start again which leads to me to stop moving. Wicked cycle.

  9. I know what you mean about exercise. I find every excuse in the book. I"m also in my early fourties and feel achy and always out of breath. I think if anything exercise would help. Thats a great idea about bicycling with your son, plus it will give you some quality time with him.

  10. There must be something in blogland's water, as I've begun dieting, however walking is my best effort on the exercise arena. Wishing you all the best on your new mission, Lisa!

Boy can I relate, my 40 plus body needs some working out also! Maybe we can inspire each other.. I am starting with an intention of walking 3 times a week. May we both reach our goals.

  14. The problem with loosing weight is that you have to give up cooking..which I love. Maybe you will loose yourself in that class you are taking in Sept. After your recommendation, I signed up too. My chicken scratch will change and my hands will be so busy I won't be able to eat! Good mantra huh?

  22. I have a slightly different problem. I have lost the weight, but now I must tone up. Which means excerise and weights/strength training. Makes me really sore.

Good luck with the diet and excerise program. bicycling sounds like fun.
