Glue picking

I've been picking glue out of my fingernails all week. Well you know how I love to get sticky. I found another little hobby to play with. Paper bead making. Now how easy is this? You just get an old magazine, newspaper or some scrapbook paper, make a long thin triange, roll it up around a cocktail stick, stick it with some glue et voila - one bead. Then you like that so much that make another - two beads - and other and another, all the while experimenting with sizes and shapes until suddenly you realise you've got enough for a full set of jewellery. Well, nearly!

I do feel I might get bored of this hobby fairly quickly, but for this week it has been fun and strangely soothing so I will share as my Happy Friday post.

The beads in the picture aren't 'ones I made earlier'. I figured that 'borrowing' someone else's picture may be easier and quicker than trying to photograph mine (and they have made a few more) - I'm on a hectic schedule today. In fact, if you like the look, but can't be doing with all that fiddly stickiness, then you might like to buy these to support women in Uganda. Here's the link to where I found the picture.
Before I go, a quick reminder that the Inspiration Avenue art auction for the Angel Faces charity ends on Sunday. Don't miss your chance to buy something pretty and help disfigured girls.

Must dash... Have a great weekend...

  1. Hi Lisa! Picking dried glue from my fingers is a favorite pastime! More relaxing than bead making if you ask me.

  3. have you heard of a product called Invisible Gloves? It is a hand cream that you apply just before working in the studio and glue and paint come right off your hands with a washing... I love it and use it all the time...
    the beads sound like fun!

  7. Thanks for sharing! I would like to see your beads if you get a chance to post them. I love all things paper but I've never tried these. I wonder if they could be made somewhat larger and strung with other bits for a jaunty garland. Have fun crafting!

  9. I've made these before, and they're fun--I've added them to collages using the paper that I collaged with--but I know what you mean about the glue--a pain.

  12. Oh that does sound fun and addicting.I thought I was weird because I love when I get gel medium on my hands so I can pick it off.

  14. Made these out of newspaper with a class and painted them. I do not recommend wearing beads decorated with powder paint with your best white shirt! However I am sure yours are lovely - these ones look really good.

  16. How cool is that?! Not being in on the crafty-ness out there in the world, this one does look doable. Hmm...

  19. I love these beads. Don't know that I'll try making them, but if it gets rainy this summer when we have the grandchildren for a week on vacation, it would be a great thing to play with.
